Here you can be inspired by how educators are using Makedo to achieve a variety of student and teacher goals that link to each classroom’s relevant curriculum.

Have a go yourself
Before introducing Makedo to your students, it’s beneficial to have a go yourself. Using Makedo is easy!
Find some clean, used cardboard, grab your Makedo tools and start constructing.
You can’t go wrong! Through trialling and possibly failing, you’ll soon get the hang of how best to connect and build with cardboard.
Get started with your students
Facilitate an open-ended making session for your students so that they can get the hang of cardboard construction using the Makedo tools.
Start constructing something fun and of interest. For example, run a competition to see who can build the tallest tower, have the children dress each other up or create a creature that flies.
When your students are familiar with how to use the Makedo tools, leave the tools out and readily accessible as part of your classroom resources. This way, students can explore and represent their ideas and learning using Makedo, whenever they want to.
Plan a lesson or project
Now you’re ready to use Makedo to plan meaningful learning experiences for students.
The design and construction process is a fabulous way to explore students’ interests while meeting curriculum areas. E.g. learn about endangered animals and design a habitat or learn about simple machines and build traps!
Pose a statement or a question and set the challenge for students to come up with answers. Makedo cardboard constructions are a great way for students to represent what they have learned about a topic.

Part of the brilliance of working with Makedo is the magic of transforming an everyday cardboard box into whatever can be imagined; from mind’s eye to I made it! Children are natural makers and understand the fascination of transforming the simple building block of cardboard.
There is a lot going for cardboard!
Cardboard:
● Gives form and is pliable enough for small hands to manipulate.
● Is versatile and can be folded, sawed and hole punched while maintaining its durability.
● Is a readily available, free and unlimited building block that can be recycled and reused.
● Is a fabulous resource for modest classroom budgets because it is free!
● Facilitates the interruption of the waste stream by using otherwise discarded cardboard boxes for making.
● Can be reused over and over again. You can easily un-make a creation, re-make it or make something entirely new, all with the same bits of cardboard.

In the spirit of making do, it simply requires a little creativity to find the right quality and amount of cardboard for your needs.
Here are a few ideas:
● Ask families to donate recycled boxes from home or from their workplace.
● Ask school employees to save boxes from school deliveries and to donate recycled boxes from home.
● Go to your local supermarkets, wholesalers and retail businesses on the days they put their boxes out for recycling and freely take your fill.
● Get to know the businesses in your area and ask them to save their boxes for you.
● Find your local recycling depot and collect what you need from there.
